英会話学校は英語を学びたいと思う人たちに常に人気があります。但し、近年、英会話学校に英語を学びに行っても、必ずしも英語力が効率的に上達するとは 限らないことに、気づいてる人も多いのではないでしょうか。大手英会話学校の売り文句の一つは、一般的に「便利さ」です。 生徒は、自分に合った時間 に、直前に申し込んで授業に参加します。 しかし、この方法では、授業の質が二の次になっています。 （なぜなら、先生たちにとって、一人一人の生徒に あった授業の準備をする十分な時間がないからです。） また、便利さを売りにした広告は、やる気のない生徒に、たいして努力や時間を注ぎ込まなくても英 語を上達できると勘違いさせています。真実はとても簡単！ 第二外国語を学ぶのは大変なことなのです。努力をしなくてはいけないのです。 短期で簡単に 語学力を一気に上達させる方法なんてありません。「Could you tell me how to get to the station? （駅にはどのように行けばいいのですか？）」なんていうフレーズを覚えるのは簡単かもしれませんが、それは何の意味もないのです。 なぜなら、ネイティ ブスピーカーが道順を説明しても理解できなければ、貴方は駅までたどり着けないからです。我々、T.E.A.のやり方は、まずきちんとした文法の基礎を 身につけるところから始まります。 とは言っても、うちは文法の学校ではありませんので、全ての授業は、現実的な会話の中で、正しい英語を練習すること に焦点を当てています。 教育学の研究でも明らかになっていますが、文法の基礎なしで英会話の練習をしても、ある時点で上達がとまってしまいますが、文 法の基礎が身についている人は、ネイティブに近いレベルまで上達することが可能なのです。 つまり、基礎なしに家を建てることができないように、文法の 基礎なしに言語を取得することはできないのです。T.E.A.では、生徒の皆さんに約束します！生活の中で時間をやりくりし、やる気を維持し、授業中だ けでなく授業外でも練習をし、そして間違えを恐れなければ、英語できちんとコミュニケーションができるようになることを！ Simon Watts & Stephen HughesThe English Academy
Our Philosophy
Eikawa has for the past 20 years, been a popular choice for people wishing to learn English in Japan. However it has been proved that in most cases studying English by this method doesn’t work. The main message of the big English Schools in Japan has been one of convenience. A student can take lessons at a time that is good for them, but the result of this approach is that lesson and teaching quality is considered less important than being able to take a lesson at short notice. This encourages students who are not particularly motivated to think they can learn a language without putting in the required amount of effort and time. The truth is very simple, learning a second language is difficult, it takes a lot of diligence and there are no short easy ways. Remembering phrases like ‘Could you tell me how to get to the station?’ is easy but meaningless. What’s the use if you can’t understand the response from a native speaker?Our approach at T.E.A. is to build from a solid grammatical base, but we are certainly not a grammar school. All our lessons focus on practicing correct English in real conversations. This is the essence of communication; you can’t build a house without foundations, just like you can’t build language without a grammatical foundation.We at T.E.A. make all our students and prospective students a promise:If you allocate time from your lives to study with us, keep your motivation, and keep practicing outside lessons as well as inside, and finally don’t be afraid of making some mistakes, then you will become a competent communicator of English.
